Fresh stuff, best-of-the-web for midlife women
Because you're older, and you have more insurance
Impress your kids by knowing about these cool websitesI asked my students what their favorite websites are, and, naturally, I hadn't heard of them. Of course, by the time I finish this post, these sites may be out, but both are a lot of fun, and they taught me about digital entrepreneurship in their own twisted ways. Their common components: good ideas, low startup costs, good curationa, and their users produce the very product they also consume. Brilliant, in Soylent Green kind of way! Here they are: Texts from Last Night (DO NOT OPEN AT WORK), in which users post texts that they made the night before, presumably either in (or on their way to) a drunken stupor. You know, all the things we might have written down on cocktail napkins back in the day. Here's a sample: Crazy, right? Here's a Wall Street Journal blog post on the young founders. You may also have noticed that they have also published book from this blog. Here's how they got started. The other popular site is FMyLife, the English language version of a French website called viedemerde, which, in French, means, oh, go look it up. On this site, people tell their short, unfortunate stories, and cap it with the expression: "FML." Readers vote up or down whether the poster's life is indeed Effed. Here's a sample: Today, I was working when an older lady came up to buy a coffee. Her son cried for a cup of whipped cream to snack on. She shook her head, silently telling me to say no. I said we were out. The mother took her drink and said, "I'm sorry honey, but the mean man said you couldn't have any." FML The creators of this site have also published a book. These sites are the digital equivalent of the Chicken Soup series. Catch the drift?
