Fresh stuff, best-of-the-web for midlife women

Great writing by women you'd like to have a drink with.

Sometimes a chicken is just a...chicken

It's hard to believe that someone could write about the trend of middle-aged women's infatuation with rearing chickens without at least a smidgen of humor, but Peggy Orenstein managed to do so in Sunday's New York Times magazine. Peggy. Lighten up. You're thinkin' too much.

What she fails to mention in her column on "femivores" raising chickens in Berkeley is just how much fun they are.

The chickens, that is, not the femivores.

For a brighter, and much more fun, read (and this has screenplay written all over it), check out Boston Globe columnist Brian McGrory's Pecking My Battles.
