WikiHow: How to use this how-to site

Story Type:
Tech Knowledge

You might be familiar with the website Wikipedia. It's an online "encyclopedia" that is edited by web users, making it a favorite for finding out quick (if not always reliable) information about anything, everyone, and anywhere.

Wikipedia is the bane of many a teacher's essay-editing experience, as some students regard the site as a legititmate source of credible information. Some schools have even banned the site from use in educational projects. One tip: judge the sources at the bottom of the Wikipedia page and cite accordingly.

WikiHow is a how-to site that uses the wiki (meaning a site that allows anyone to edit) platform to offer nearly 50,000 instructions on everything from making a holiday wreath using a wire hanger, to riding a mechanical bull, to making scones. There are also instructions on more esoteric but equally useful topics, like compromising with a spouse.

Now, the site may seem a bit unwieldy, given the plethora of entries, but in fact some of the WikiHows are quite informative, and nearly all are accompanied by step-by-step photos. While it may not be your go-to site for recipes or crafts, it can be a fun site to peruse during online downtime.

Personal favorites include: How to Close a Bag of Potato Chips by Folding It --chips of bags in my house always end up stale.
